Here we go again! 2011 Junior Nationals

It's been another season of ski competitions. To complete the season, Shane has once again qualified for Junior Olympics. Now they are calling it Junior Nationals. I don't know why the name change but its still the same format, judging etc. This year takes us west instead of east. Nationals will be held at Steamboat in Colorado.

This year does have one big difference over last year. Shane will be competing in two disciplines instead of just one. Last year he qualified for aerials only. This year he'll be competing in both aerials and slopestyle. Good job Shane!

We'll be heading west on Friday 3-4 and coming home 3-13. Our trip is going to include a weekend skiing at Keystone at the famous Area 51 terrain park with the other midwest skiers that qualified for nationals. That weekend Shane will also get a chance to ski indoors at Woodward. A skateboard and bmx camp that also happens to have a snowflex jump into a foam pit. Its a jump that is covered in a carpet that can be skied on. Its going to be a great chance for Shane to try some tricks that he hasn't tried on snow before. A foam pit is more forgiving then snow! After the weekend in the Keystone area we'll be heading north to Steamboat Springs for daily training and of course the competitions. Thursday is the slopestyle competition and Saturday is aerials.

As long as everything goes well, I'll be trying to post a daily update along with the "video of the day". Feel free to share the blog address with anyone you think would be interested and comments are always welcome.

Just to make sure I can post videos properly, here's a test video. This is Shane doing a flat 3 at Hyland Hills in Bloomington.
