Today was our last day of skiing for this trip. Shane had his final competion of the season. Today was Aerials! After skiing everyday for the last 8 days, you could say Shane is a little beat up. His shins are so sore he can barely walk. His toenails on both large toes are so bruised that I'm guessing they may actually fall off. And to top it off, the aerials landing froze solid overnight. Not the best conditions. Shane got to the mountain early and took advantage of the 1 hour practice time. He was clearly in a lot of pain but he decided to take every practice jump he could. They ran all the women first so the mens competition didn't start until around 11:00. The sun came out and the temperture warmed. Things were looking up. Shane drew number 42 in the jump order. This was a good thing as well. A good number of skiers landed on that hard landing before Shane had to jump. That combined with the warmer tempertures meant a much softer landing.
Shane started off doing his mute 3 in the first round. After the first round he was 40th out of 63 skiers. He was happy with that but still had another jump he needed to land. His second jump was a mute 7. Two full rotations. Again he landed his jump. Woo hoo! No more pressure! We got complete results at 6 pm and Shane had managed to move himself up to 34th place. A finish he can be proud of. 34th place against 62 of the best junior aerials skiers in the country.
Tomorrow we head home. Thanks everyone!
